Antique Restoration

Antique   restoration,   as   opposed   to   refinishing   or   repair,   is   a   process   of   restoring   a   piece   of   furniture   to   its   original   glory.   This   process may   include   repairing   or   replacing   broken   parts,   as   well   as   staining   and   matching   the   existing   finish.   Although   the   aged   patina   of countless   decades   can   be   achieved   through   a   time   consuming   process   of   layering   and   glazing,   rejuvenating   the   finish   is   far   superior   to stripping it off and applying a new one. Some   styles   with   intricate   carvings   and   inlays   would   be   cost   prohibitive   to   have   custom   built   today,   but   retrofitting   an   antique   piece   to serve a new purpose is very popular. The examples below will better illustrate some of these methods. Whether   restoring   a   piece   to   its   original   condition,   re-purposing   an   old   piece   to   serve   a   new   function   or   just   removing   decades   of   dirt and grime from a treasured heirloom, anything is possible.
